Prabal Gurung

All Images Via prabalgurung.com

I know it is a bit late to post about talents from New York Fashion Week SS2010 collection. But this guy, Prabal Gurung, a Nepalese fashion designer who's now resides in NYC is one of the hottest fresh young talents. The latest New York fashion week for Spring 2010 was not his first season but he grabbed my attention at that time. His passion started when he decided to learn fashion at a National Institute of Fashion Technology in India. He quickly worked at some India couture houses after his graduation. Spent his youth globe trotting, finally he came to NYC to enroll at the prestigious Parsons School of Design. His talent was rapidly recognized and was awarded "Best Designer" title by Annual Parsons/ FIT Design competition. Following his Parsons years he was soon recruited by famous fashion designers such as; Cynthia Rowley and Bill Blass. Now, standing on his own, doing a self-named line, Prabal Gurung, since Fall 2009.

This is awesome!!I found this pretty funny and impressive Hey I would work for Alfalfa Studio if I'm not self employed yet, they look like a very fun crowd to work with!!! Come-on who would dance in the middle of husling bustling SOHO area which involves the whole office crew? Hats-off to Nigel's co-workers who are wicked cool that y'all know how to make him dance. Damn boy! You actually know how to move your tushie! Note to self: Domicilium studio will have to hire the cool designers only in the future. I might brought this up in our monday morning meeting ;)

The Defender of Pure White Walls ;)

White is pure, white is calm, wear white clothing during the day coz it gives you good aura and positive energy. I always love to use white in designs but usually my client will go againts me, especially the hospitality clients. Yes I will usualy defend myself and the battle is not avoidable. It depends on who is the client, either I win or they win ;) anyhoo, at the end we always choose the happy medium. Uhhu....I'm quite a diplomate when defending my designs, I always put clients' best interest first ofcourse. Nevertheless, I always decorate my own room with lots of white and just a pop of accent color. White can look very boring and plain if not used appropriately. Adding textures, interesting shapes and a pop of color here and there will do the trick. Above are some of my fav pictures I love from the past and I happen to forgot where i got them from. If anyone knows who these belongs to please let me know and please thank them for me. Have a great weekend! Ciao!

Happily OVERWHELMED!

Lately I've been very overwhelmed with work and life. I haven't been able to post because things been moving on the speed of light. I simply even didn't have enough time to go online to breathe or let alone doing my regular window shopping/blogging therapy. But honestly, I've been enjoying these chaos at the moment. Same thing has been happening with the world of fashion lately, especially how great SS2010 collection from this past Paris Fashion week has been. October 2nd was also a great day for us Indonesians. UNESCO has finally commenced that BATIK is definately belong to our nation's heritage. After years of battle with our neighbouring countries who were trying to claim them, this was definately a huge moment for us. Then, I saw the application of Javanese Batik in Dries Van Noten SS 2010 along with Uzbekiztan Ikat and Indian Saries. This is awesome, Danke Dries! So! Now! I'm presenting stirs of beautiful "style chaos" I just found. Lots of beautiful details, beautiful batik, and 80's glam rock chic. Enjoy!

Chicago's New Hospitality Gem, Elysian Hotel.

Main Lobby

Living Room @ Guest Suites

Bedroom@ Guest Suites
with Custom Designed 460 Threadcount Italian Cotton Sheets

Classic Carrara Marble Cladded Bathtub

Custom Designed Vanity with TV Mirror @ Bathroom

Would you like to experience "Joie de Vivre" kind of life just like the Gods and Goddesses at the Elysian Field? Well....my fellow mortals you don't have to go too far. Chicago has a new gem called the Elysian Hotel. Designed with Parisian style sophistication in mind, inspired by the 20's and 30's glamour period and couture pioneers like Chanel and Dior, this place is definately the "bling" of the town.. Yeah Donald, you better watch out for this new kid on the block (literally it is just located blocks away from the Trump Tower). Under the direction of Lisa Simeone and Gina Deary of Simeone Deary Design Group, this property is definately a success story. This project has been the darling of this Chicago based interior design boutique firm since day one when the client, David Pisor, decided to trust his vision transformed into reality. Months of travelings in Europe and nights of dwellings at fabulous hotels was definately the epiphany moments for Pisor and partners. At Simeone Deary Design Group is where I used to work at and being involved in this project since my early days as a fresh graduate. I remember those restless nights thinking about Austrian crystals vs glass crystals for the starbust chandelier at the lobby, tossing and turning, talking in my sleep " See this crystal? This one doesn't have any lead content in it! That is why it doesn't sparkle, and this one is GEOORRGEOUZZ coz it has 30% lead content in it! Ben, The lacquer finish is not glossy enough, 70% glossiness at least please and..its's too yellow :(. More shine please, yes POLISHED CHROME thats what the spec said right???" Hahahaha.....Yes...those days ;) but hey I really enjoyed the excitements, stresses, the ups and downs and at the end of the day I gained more expriences than what anyone could get in 4 years time. Elysian was everyone's "baby" and it was definately mine as well. Man, I felt like we were giving birth and raising a baby Elysian as a Chicagoan debutante and finally now it is ready for it's Debutante Ball. Congratulations to everyone, finally after great 4 years this property is ready for its debut at the end of this year. A huge thank you to my former boss ladies and mentors, Lisa Simeone and Gina Deary. I left SDDG earlier this year to persue a new venture starting my own firm, Domisilium Studio, in Jakarta, Indonesia. Now, looking back all I can do is smile, thinking how grateful I am that I was able to be a part of something BEAUTIFUL!!
Ps: The NEW Marc Jacobs flagship store is just located at the lobby level.
