Solemn Gratitude

I've always being taught to be grateful by my parents. My favorite part of Oscar moment is when the award receiver gave their thank you speech. Of course this silly-vain pot- 'ol me since the age of 9 has been imagining this particular moment, delivering my own thank you speech while holding this monumental award (a Mrs. Buttersworth syrup bottle in my reality) wearing a sparkly designer gown, cladded with Dame Elizabeth's worth of rocks, and glorious make-up and hairdo. As a child even as an adult I enjoyed this kind of silly portrayal in my head from time to time. Don't we all? Dont't lie! It is definately a self loving-guilt-free pleasure gesture, definately a fast fix to a self-ego stroke. Sounds pathetic? Na-ah! I can tell you why. Now, there is a new spin to this old repertoire. As a child we all dreamed, hoping that someday when we grow up we would become someone uber cool, successful, or grown up to be someone who we idolized. Along the journey to adulthood, this little child will experience different things, bombarded with series of events, met individuals who are eventually influence or got influenced by our own existence. Eventually this little child becomes his/her own unique adult being. Sadly, sometimes as a result of this cruel world, this little child does not exists within anymore. It all begins with disappointments towards other individuals, then frustration came and it turns into a depression, bitterness arrived clouding minds, hindering growth, sunshine and sucking-up all the joy in life. There are many self-help books and tips on "How to be happy" and "How to forgive" out there. I confess I've read some of them in attempt to fix my dark moments. Come on don't laugh! I know a lot of you guys must have read it too at least once in your life. From all of those thousands tips on how to be happy, there is one particular point that clings to me. It is how we have to be thankful. Especially to be thankful for series of events which involves people that you met along your own journey. So, I've came out with my own list of people to thank for every single day. I listed their name in my little black book in private and put down what I thank them for. Basically it's like building your own little "Thank you lists for your own award acceptance", but the difference is that this list will not get publicized. But, hey it may came up handy in the future if you need them for an award ceremony! You can either say thank you for people who inspires you, help you, all the way to the individuals who pisses you off and because of them you are becoming the now your fabulous self. For example: Thank you ex-boss who always inspires me, now that I always look back to our creative moments together whenever I felt un-creative or Thank you ex-boyfriend for being a true you (a.k.a jerk) that now I am now with this new "oh so cool non-jerk" boyfriend. One other example from small events in our daily life; Barista at coffee shop you pisses me off because you move so slow I almost climb the counter to take over your job and fix my own coffee, but Thank you for being slow because I have a moment to realize that I have to learn to be more patient to other patron. Each day, or from time to time you will add new names and pray for them in private, thankful for their existence, thankful for series of events that happened as the outcome of interaction with them and finally say thank you to the Creator. I've been doing this and it helped me to come down to earth and I can see clearly that things happens for a reason. It is definitely a moment of "Chill, breathe and reflect", and slowly happiness creeps into your life. Happy Sunday EVERYBODY!! Thank you all for reading, now I need to practice my own thank you speech *reaching Mrs.Butterworth's syrup bottle* Teeheeee!Anyhooooo...in the spirit of gratitude I found this gorgeous DIY thank you note. Plus chill music for your relaxing sunday from my new fav band KOOP.

Going to the Jungle!

My sweets, I will be going to the National Park in Ujung Kulon to get in touch with my inner "naturalist butch". Ujung Kulon is located at the most western tip of Java island. We will be seeing a lot of cool animals, especially the endangered species of Java Rhino. The difference with it's African cousin is that it only has a single horn instead of two. No, this trip is not going to be glamorous but it will be a once in a life time kind of thing. Plus, an ex-Elite supermodel who I cannot mention her name over here is going to be joining us as well. Well, OK actually she is going to be the only glamorous thing in the jungle for 4 days and 3 nights. Hmmm....editorial photo shoots with the Rhinos anybody?? Wish me luck!

Happy Saturday Sunshine!

I've been very sick with tropical malady these past weeks. I spent way too much time in my bedroom because doctor ordered me a strict bed rest order. This morning, the sun was beautiful and I took picture of the ray peeking through my bedroom's plantation style shutters window. Happy Saturday everybody, take care and stay healthy because the weather changed from rain to very hot in a very extreme way.

Chanel Pétanque Set

Pétanque season is HERE! I came across this image from the fabulous blog of Garance Doré. She is attending an invitation by Chanel to view their cruise collection in Saint-Tropez while pétanque games will be held for invited fashionistas. This is the chicest pétanque set I ever lay my eyes on. Ofcourse it is chic because it is by Chanel! Usually this game is played by older fellows in the south of France. Who knows that playing pétanque could be very fashionable. Grandpas watch out!

Inacraft 2010, Jakarta

Today we spent 6 hours of our precious sunday at Inacraft. Basically it is the biggest yearly Indonesian handycraft fair in Jakarta which involves hundreds of vendors from all over Indonesia. During that glorious 6 hours we practiced the art of walking thru crazy crowds in zig-zag patterns, screening thru merchandise in a lighting speed, navigating thru giant maze of vendors, juggling with shopping bags and haggling for the best possible price. The results: a $30 yellow phyton snakeskin wallet from bali, 3 embroidered linen fans at $3 each from Surabaya, and 2 stingray man's wallet I bought for gifts at $15 each from Jogja. This is a way to support the local businesses. God I love this country!

Happy Easter!!!! & Bon Anniv DOMISILIUM STUDIO!!!

Picture via weheartit.com
Easter meant so much more for us than just what it is. Last year around the same time as today, I wrote our very first contract for our maiden project in Jakarta. We actually forgot when was the exact anniversary date of our firm. From what I remember is that we were heading back home from meeting with our first client at a winebar (Social House). We even haven't christened our firm with any name, we need to identify ourself with something isn't it? I was actualy tempted to call ourselves the DYNAMIC DUO, because we are partners in crime!!! (Hamphrey as the Batman and I the Robin) but no, we need something more professional and classier than that! So... in the car, half tipsy (no we did not drink n drive, luckily Hamphrey's driver drove us that night) and trying to think something smart at the same time, we think...and think and think (it's hard to think straight when we are a little tipsy) and then VOILA we came up with DOMISILIUM STUDIO. It literally means home, or the place where we originated in Latin language. Well to think about it, we had to gave up everything that we had in America to come back home where we came from to be with our family and having to start a new life. So, Easter would make a good sense as our anniversary date, it symbolizes a new beginning, rebirth and growth. So here it is Happy Easter and Happy 1st Anniversary to Domisilium Studio! It's been a fun journey with lots of hard work we promised ourselves to keep growing. heeeppp heeppp hurraaahhh!!! Here's to us!! *clink clink*

Blooming Queens

Last night, my "The Queen of The Night" flower bloomed it's 30 buds alltogether. It was simply gorgeous. Its sweet pungent fragrance filled my garden. Even the fish in the pond were unusually active. These flower usually bloomed at 9pm and it ends at midnight. Maybe it should be called the Cinderella instead? Oh the nature does wonders isn't it?

Merry Christmas!

I took these pictures of awesome snowmans made by kids around my neighbourhood last year in Chicago. These snowpeeps are pretty swell aren't they?

Crazy! Christmas is TOMMOROOOWWWWW. It is hard to feel the spirit of Christmas when you are in the warmer weather country. Well maybe I might get the jolly spirit if I make my effort to go to the malls. But things are just so different here, Christmas in Jakarta is just not the same. I'm so used to the cold weather of Chicago already for the past 10 years of my life. I'm really dreaming of white x'mas this year. Oh...to compensate this longing feel, I put on my pashmina shawl while it is raining outside. Even thou it is not that cold, I just miss the warm and soft cashmere touch to my neck and drinking hot coco while reading my fav magazine in my own little corner. hmmm......I am flying to Bali today. I will be spending Christmas and New Year in the hot hot weather. Bali is the hottest around this time of the year because the hot summer wind blows from Australia. So Merry Christmas to you all my dolls and bunnies. Stay warm and be safe! *sending all the sunshine and warmth to y'all* HYAAHHH.......

My dear friend Nigel works for Alfalfa Studio in SOHO, NY. I never never seen Nigel dance before and I knew him from waaayyyyy back when he was still a freshmen in college. This is awesome!!I found this pretty funny and impressive Hey I would work for Alfalfa Studio if I'm not self employed yet, they look like a very fun crowd to work with!!! Come-on who would dance in the middle of husling bustling SOHO area which involves the whole office crew? Hats-off to Nigel's co-workers who are wicked cool that y'all know how to make him dance. Damn boy! You actually know how to move your tushie! Note to self: Domisilium studio will have to hire the cool designers only in the future. I might brought this up in our monday morning meeting ;)
