Probes; Skin dresses *swoonnnnn*

Philips Design has developed a series of dynamic garments as part of the ongoing SKIN exploration research into the area known as 'emotional sensing'. The garments, which are intended for demonstration purposes only, demonstrate how electronics can be incorporated into fabrics and garments in order to express the emotions and personality of the wearer. The marvelously intricate wearable prototypes include 'Bubelle', a dress surrounded by a delicate 'bubble' illuminated by patterns that changed dependent on skin contact- and 'Frison', a body suit that reacts to being blown on by igniting a private constellation of tiny LEDs . Custom Zipper Neck Piece from Outsapop

Image via Outsapop.
I found this beautiful neck piece made from zippers by a Finish Fashion Designer through my daily blog browsing. Her work is very inspiring, she even show you how she makes this piece here. Each piece is custom and she does not have any pattern so she can't even make 2 identical pieces at all. But she would do custom work for you if you are interested. Email her at outsapop.com@gmail.com. You can choose the color from black, navy, white and red. Owwww.....I like!

Alvin T

The Bell Chair. Photo Via alvin-t.com

Alvin T, Indonesia's product design community hottest talent. Graduated from Melbourne's RMIT in 2004 , Alvin T has been unstoppable since the day he graduated. The first time I saw his work, it was back in 2006 at an export furniture show in Jakarta. I was amazed how fresh his design approach and craftmenships, which in my opinion resembles what you could find from Italian manufacturer. He created the Bell Chair while he was still a student and it was selected to be exhibited in one of the world’s leading furniture fair, Milan Salone Satellite in 2005. He is currently taking a sabbatical and enrolled in a Master degree program at Instituto Europeo de Diseno in Spain. I'm very excited to see what would be the future of Indonesian design industry filled with local talents such as Alvin T. This insight is giving me a more positive note about design industry in my own country. I will be leaving US in a month from today, wish me luck now I'm ready to pursue something bigger and better in my own motherland.

Deluxe-How Luxury Lost It's Luster by Dana Thomas

Dana thomas, European editor of Conde Nast Porfolio Deluxe-How Luxury Lost It's Luster. I read this book during my 1 month hibernation. In the book, Thomas gave interesting insight about how luxury goods quality used to be, juicy facts about luxury giants such as LVMH, how couture houses survived bancruptcy, the power of designer-perfumes & accessories, counterfit handbags, and how brand re-imaging can elevate brand's status, every single juicy insight in fashion industry mentioned in this book. After reading this book, it reminds me of all things that I learnt from my first Undergrad degree in Fashion Marketing Management. MAN! I wished this book exists back then!!!! I did not have to spent those years of "couture research and study".Overall this is a really informative book for students, businessmens, fashionistas, anti-fashionistas, or anyone who is curious about fashion-behind the scene, totally recomended. Other book I can recommend for similar genre is The End of Fashion by Teri Agins. It tells all about how marketing dictates fashion.
